Baltimore Action Legal Team (BALT) is seeking a full-time Operations Director. This position is a unique opportunity to support a small, grassroots legal organization that is committed to ending structural racism and economic inequality. 

Basic Function 

The Operations Director will be responsible for managing the day to day human resource, finance, and support general organization operations to help achieve BALT’s vision and mission. This position reports to the Executive Director. 

Key Responsibilities 

Manage three main areas of work: Human Resources, finance, and general organization operations. 

Human Resources 

○ Developing and maintaining BALT’s human resource policies and processes.

○ Onboarding and offboarding of all BALT employees, interns, and volunteers.

○ Processing payroll for all BALT employees, interns, contractor, and stipend recipients. 

○ In collaboration with the Executive Director, managing BALT’s annual employee evaluation processes. 

○ Continue to develop and maintain BALT’s Employee Handbook and its compliance with proper human resource standards. 

Finance 

○ In collaboration with the Executive Director and BALT’s bookkeepers, support BALT’s financial tasks. 

○ Process requests for mileage and expense reimbursements for Executive Director approval. 

○ In collaboration with the Executive Director and other members of the BALT team, support BALT’s grant making and management initiatives. 

■ Collaborating and submitting written grant proposals 

■ Coordinating the agenda and facilitating BALT’s grant meetings 

■ Collaborating in the facilitation and submitting of grant reports 

○ In collaboration with the Executive Director and BALT’s bookkeepers develop annual organization budget. 

General Organization Tasks 

○ Coordinating agenda for weekly BALT team meetings. 

○ Maintain and respond to inquiries from BALT’s Info inbox. 

○ Facilitating communication with BALT’s board including meeting agendas and follow up meeting items. 

○ Process approved organizational related expense request from staff and interns. ○ Process travel and hotel accommodations BALT travel needs. 

Skills And Experience 

● 3-5 years of human resources experience required. 

● 3-5 years of experience working within a 501c3 environment preferred.

● Willingness to understand Black organizing, Black liberation, intersectionality, anti-oppression principles and practices with experience utilizing personal and organizational interactions. 

● Self starter that takes initiative to meet organization’s operational needs.

● Strong verbal and written communication skills. 

● Ability to work well remotely independently or within a team. 

● Exceptional organizational and project management skills. 

Position: Full time employee. 40+ hours per week. 

Compensation: $50,000 (Negotiable) plus medical, dental, and vision benefits.

Location: Remote. Residing in Baltimore City or have reliable transportation.
