Donate to BALT’s Immigration Bond Fund!
BALT established our immigration bond fund in June 2026 as the current political environment has seen a massive increase in immigration detention and deportation. BALT’s immigration bond fund is a resource for community members in Maryland to secure the release of their loved ones from ICE detention, and a contribution to the larger effort to defend immigrants, their loved ones, and our communities as a whole.
With this new program, BALT stands alongside many others defending immigrant communities, whether by organizing ICE-watching efforts or providing legal representation to those at risk of ICE arrest and deportation. Meeting the need for immigration bond fills a crucial gap, strengthening community defense. Moreover, it helps hold the line against the federal government’s dramatic expansion of detentions, deportations, and surveillance.
BALT recognizes race and immigration status are intersecting points of oppression by the same systems we combat in our other areas of work. As with criminal detention, we know that ICE detention is deeply harmful and does not keep us safe. Immigration bond is one of the few routes to freedom from ICE detention. Bonds can range widely in amount - from a minimum of $1,500 to $50,000 and beyond. In all cases, individuals and their loved ones face a dilemma: pay thousands in exchange for freedom, or endure even more time in ICE detention and under the current Administration, face a high risk for deportation.
Community bail and bond funds are on the front lines supporting families who cannot afford to pay the bond ransom for their freedom. Every bond a community bond fund can support is one more person able to rejoin their family and fight their case from a place of freedom.
How BALT’s Bond Fund Helps Immigrant Communities
BALT’s immigration bond fund primarily supports community members with strong ties to Maryland. We also recognize that one of the Administration’s current practices is to transfer people through multiple immigration detention jails, and work in solidarity with fellow immigration bond funds in the National Bail Fund Network to support freedom for community members in danger of deportation and family separation.
Beyond immigration bond itself, BALT provides wraparound supports to individuals being released from ICE detention. BALT supports travel to get someone safely home after release. For other needed supports, BALT can refer community members to those in our network of mutual aid groups, organizations, and other resources where available.
